The Harry Bertoia iconic Diamond Wire Chair. Harry Bertoia transformed industrial wire rods into a new modern furniture form.  The series of events that made these works possible began 10 years earlier at the Cranbrooke Academy of Art when Bertoia met Florence Knoll Bassett, formerly Florence Schust. Several years later the Italian born designer Harry Bertoia was invited to work for Florence and her husband Hans Knoll.
 
The agreement terms were considered favourable to Harry, and Bertoia was given unlimited freedom to work on whatever and where ever his natural flair took him. The result was The Harry Bertoia Seating Collection (1952).
 
An extremely strong yet delicate appearance are the main feature of Harry Bertoias' Diamond Wire Chair. The airy lounge seats are a sculpture of steel rods. Harry Bertoia created his art following exhaustive experimentation with open forms and metal works "if you look at the chairs they are mainly made of air, like sculpture and space passes through them" said Harry Bertoia.
 
Together with Eero Aarnio (Aarnio Chair Finland 1966) Harry Bertoia won many awards for his contemporary Diamond Wire Chair and other home furnishing designs.
